What is Aurum

Aurum is a board game adventure for up to 4 players featuring an augmented reality (referred to as AR hereafter) expansion. At the beginning of the game each player chooses one of 8 possible pirate captains, each with a different bonus enhancing different play styles. The game starts as a board game on a treasure island, inhabiting a variable number of treasures. The pirate who horts the most valuable booty by the time the last treasure is found wins the game. However as every treasure island there are plenty of monsters to be fought, places to be discovered, jungles to be braved as well as adversaries to be tricked and to be relieved of their gold. At the beginning of each turn an event card is drawn. An Event can be a monster encounter, positive (e.g.draw a loot card) or negative (e.g. skip one turn). After the event is resolved the player decides if he/she wants to roll 2 dice to move, or roll 1 die and relocate one tree in the jungle, opening up a path for oneself and blocking a path for others or relocating 2 trees and not rolling at all. The first pirate at the treasures location draws one treasure card from the treasure pile. Depending on how many treasures are located on one island the new location is determined by a D12 die or the board is replaced by the AR marker to find a new island.

As the AR expansion starts the players connect their smartphones and choose their pirate’s ship. As soon as all players are connected the game starts. Every player starts in a different corner of the depicted AR-ocean. Between several obstacles are several navigation object which need to be collected to learn the location of the next treasure island. The players now tap their phones to accelerate their ships and move around the marker to turn it. Every ship is equipped with two canons to bombard the other ships and make them spin in circles. The first pirate at the new treasure island receives a bonus for the next board game round.

Augmented Reality Expansion

*A bug appeared in the last build that slows the ships movement by approximately the factor 10. Therefor we sped up the video.
**Initially the app featured blow input to move the ship but due to variable sensitivity of each smartphone's microphone this feature hat to be dropped
